Chris Brogran (http://www.chrisbrogan.com/how-i-came-to-love-google-wave/) has also written a good article about Google Wave. At first he also had no use for it, like it was with twitter.
One paragraph from the article: "The “light” is that this tool is better than email about going back and forth, and also, if you use it well (I’m learning to keep the “blips” at the top as the “gold” stuff, and use the blips below a certain point as the “chatter”), then you’ll see obvious and instant reasons for using it. But if you have no obvious collaboration project to try it on, it doesn’t immediately make sense."

Theo, I was actually waiting for you to ask that question.

There are three true things I have to say about this:
1) I do not want to address German readers only and I'm fairly confident that most of my contacts are rather fluent in English.
2) Most of the things I read are in written English and it feels natural to comment in English
3) I like the language ... a lot :-)

I know we are debating over this since we went to school together which makes it about 15 to 20 years. So please forgive me if I do not want to argue about it here. I really want to talk about the content of the articles not the value or shortcomings of different languages (well maybe there will be an article at some point, but not right now). We can of course continue debating on this directly if you think there are aspects we did not consider in the last 15 years which I seriously doubt. :-)

Too bad, I specifically hoped to stay in contact with friends that live to far away to visit, take Switzerland for example, its a little too far for a Sunday trip (at least for the moment).

About the milk thing ... there was no shopping of milk today. I just wondered about the psychological effect of knowing what friends do all the time. It's almost like back in elementary school where friends shared almost everything - and the bonds of friendship where pretty strong back then.

I wonder if there is some scientific study around friendship and the forming of bonds which takes the twitter phenomenon or at least virtual social networks into consideration.

Even so I have a twitter acount. I wasn't able to feel the thrill of changing every single fact of my every day life. So I gave up writing but read the tweets of friends now and then. We'll see if your tweets will change something ;-) ...

Have fun! And by the way how many bottles of milk have you bought today?

I liked that book a lot. In my eyes Schätzing's approach in doing research for a story and then mixing his results with all aspects of a classical tech-thriller is quite similar to Michael Crichton works. I can warmly recommend 'State of Fear', 'Next' or 'Timeline' by Crichton. And there is another german novelist you could check out. Andreas Eschbach. Similar style. I will like it. His latest story 'Ausgebrannt' is playing around with the idea of getting out of oil and it implications on the whole connected world. I have read it shortly and loved the insights.

After reading this I think I should gief! you all the books I want to read and wait 3 months so I can read a resume on your blog an decide if I really want to read those books. I think I'd really do if it wasn't for you being such a slow reader. But if that ever ever changes you will probably drown in a amount of books you didn't think someone might be willing to haul from the librery to our flat without a car and a lift, just for a resume...but since you know me, maybe you wouldn't be too surprised. =)

Wtf. I'll never understand why you like english so much, but since you choose english for blogging I feel I should repley in your selfdeclared "mother tongue". :-P
As for what I wanted to say... for my part I can never decide which day is worse, but since I feel sightly misplaced among all those elderly people talking about their parents growing old and rotting away I usually decide after those weekends are over, that I should find the noise 14 kids can produce quite relaxing. Unfortunately this knowleged seems to elude me in the evening hours of the next birthday... -.-"
